Our good friends Kathi George and Steve Conforti were nice enough to invite our family to the Indy 500 this year over the Memorial Day weekend, and what an unbelievable thrill it was! There’s nothing like seeing a truly American spectacle like the Indy 500 from the inside. Thanks Kathi and Steve!!!!

The day before the race

We got to go backstage as ZZ TOP played to over 80,000 people on the interior grass of the 2.5 mile track. They were Awesome!!! Looks like Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill were having a good time.

 Frank Beard seems to be doing all right back there on the drums.

We were close enough to touch Billy Gibbons!!! Check out the “truck exhaust Mike-stand!”

Next it was raceday!!!

Before the race our boys just had to have some White Castle Burgers!!

When we arrived at the track there was a Scottish Band marching through the parking lot.

As we walked through Gasoline Alley that morning there were last minute preparations going on. 

It’s amazing just how small those car cockpits are for the drivers.

Our son Jack got to walk around the famous‘Gasoline Alley’

I know he wanted to jump into this car and just take off!

I wonder how this truck will do.

They had some of the hall of fame cars lined up at the starting line when we arrived.

 I would have loved to take this one out for a spin.

Dylan ran into some wonderful sailors while we were checking out Pit Row prior to the race.

It’s time for me to touch the ‘brickyard’ before the race.

This is the building called the Pagoda, where we are lucky enough to be watching the race from. Up there on the second floor, just above the start/finish line. Unbelievable!!!!

So we went upstairs,  looked across the track and guess who we saw? Jack Nicholson, Lakers cap and all. He was there to officially start the race.

“You want me at this race!!”            “You need me at this race!!”

All the cars are lined up and it’s time to sing ‘God Bless America’

Lisa Crutch is a former Army Sergeant and a native of Queens, New York. She suffered multiple injuries including a TBI and PTSD while bravely serving her country. Currently she’s a full-time student and participant of Wounded Warrior Project’s TRACK program.  Lisa has said “WWP has helped in ways I couldn’t explain, they have been a light in a tunnel of darkness.&rdquo

Lisa enjoys spending time with her family and talking with her friends in her spare time. Her future plans include furthering her education once she completes WWP’s TRACK program.

Marine Corps Sergeant Severa Rodriquez knows this and the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) all too well. Back home, Severa discovered first-hand how difficult the adjustment to civilian life can be when you’ve dedicated your heart to the military.

After participating in Wounded Warrior Project’s Project Odyssey, an outdoor rehabilitative retreat for warriors dealing with combat stress, Severa enrolled in TRACK, where she is taking college classes with other wounded warriors. The experience has made her socialize more and is helping to shape her post-military future.

“I really want to work with Wounded Warrior Project. The program is awesome. I want to volunteer and help other people out.  That way I know I'm here for a cause. I'm here to help others.”

Self-tanning is the method of adding colour these days.  Every time I watch The Hills, I hear Stephanie Pratt mention something about her spray tan or her spray tanning machine, and it reminds me that even if you’re in a warmer climate, you don’t sit outside and bake in the sun.

But if you’re self-tanning, then you need to make sure that you’re taking care of your skin before-hand.  That means exfoliating and making sure that it’s moisturized at all times.

There are tons of products out there that can help you do this, but I just got introduced to Get Fresh. Get Fresh is a spa bath and body line and it features tons of yummy-scented products. You can pick them up at many salons and spas and now that they’re on my radar, I’ve been noticing them way more!

Their Sugar Body Scrub in the Grapefruit flavour is one of the best I’ve ever used, and ever since I had a professional body scrub done, I use it the way a spa would. I emulsify the scrub with some water in my hand, and then rub it on dry (not wet!) skin. The sugar does take longer to dissolve, but that means that you get more exfoliating, and the overall result is smoother skin than ever before. This particular scrub actually is soft enough for you to use it this way.

I did notice that using the scrub this way made it last a lot longer, and given that I was exfoliating a couple of times a week, I was able to make this scrub last for about a month!

I seriously don't know how I haven't purchased Get Fresh stuff before.  Maybe because I've never seen any of their items in store so I didn't know what I was missing. Well, I am so thrilled to have been introduced because their stuff is absolutely amazing and with Mother's Day right around the corner I have got my presents all sorted out (sweet!).  Relief for Tattered Tootsies is an adorable feet-saving collection that comes packaged in the cutest little cosmetic bag (absolute sucker for packaging).  The set comes with Softening Foot Gel, Down and Dirty Foot Scrub, Intensive Foot Repair Creme and a pumice stone.  I love, love this kit.  All the products are incredible - smell deliciously of lemongrass, really have improved the look and feel of my feet (just in time for sandal weather) and even though the containers are on the small side, they will last a while because you don't need to use a whole lot.  For $23.00, this kit is a great gift (for Mom or yourself - your call really)

Another awesome gift for Mom is the Look Better Naked set which comes in Black Current, Lemongrass, Grapefruit and Starfruit.  The set comes with full size containers of Mineral Body Scrub, Mineral Body Mask and Rich Body Creme and comes packaged in this cute terrycloth, plastic-lined, cosmetic bag.  The Mineral Body Scrub is seriously amazing.  Containing dead salts, it's a gentle scrub that almost melts into skin when you're in the shower leaving behind an amazing scent (lemongrass is my fave).  After scrubbing use the Mineral Body Mask for a ten minute hydration boost and then end with the Body Creme which is Incredibly moisturizing, not greasy and I love the light lemongrass scent. 

And with any shopping excursion it's always important to buy something for yourself, as well.  I am a huge fan of their Nourishing Hand Creme (Grapefruit is an uplifting but not overpowering scent).  The creme sinks in immediately, smells fantastic, really hydrates and the $17.00 tube is a big one that will last a long time.  But think bedside for the 4 oz tube because it is too large for a purse.  The travel sizes, however, would be perfect for on-the-go and at $4.00 are extremely budget-friendly (and you could own the whole set at that price).

All of Get Fresh's products are free of parabens, synthetic dyes or sodium lauryl/laureth sulfates.  Also, a big bonus with this company, you can sample any products for only a $1.25 handling fee.  Gotta love that!

As a runner and a person who is always on their feet, I often suffer from foot discomfort. My feet have to be cared for on a daily basis or it is just bad news. The first step is the Mineral Body Scrub. Apply it on, works like an exfoliator, and then wash it off to get rid of all that yucky dead skin on your body.


The 2nd step was the Mineral body mask I've never actually used a body mask, it was quite interesting. It's like a face mask but all over your body! So I let that sit for about 15 minutes, and then washed off. The Result? My Skin was soft and smooth, just like your mud face mask!
